Entre autres, le propriétaire, le concepteur et le capitaine de ce nouveau paquebot, le Titanic, sont admiratifs devant l'impressionnante prouesse technique. À l'arrivée de l'équipage et à l'embarquement des passagers, la mosaïque des personnages est présentée, et leurs conversations révèlent leur statut social et leur satisfaction de vivre. Lorsque le propriétaire du navire demande au capitaine d'augmenter la vitesse pour arriver plus tôt à New York, le Titanic entre tragiquement en collision avec un iceberg, plongeant le voyage dans un état de chaos et les passagers dans une situation d'immense danger.
