L'histoire
Au début des années 1860, Anna Leonowens, nouvellement veuve, et son fils, Louis, quittent leur Angleterre natale pour Bangkok, à Siam (la Thaïlande actuelle). Anna, toujours en deuil, décide de se lancer dans une nouvelle aventure et prend le poste d'institutrice pour la progéniture royale du roi de Siam. Celui-ci est déterminé à introduire Siam dans le monde moderne, et il pense que l'éducation occidentale peut en faire partie - pourtant, au début, Anna n'est pas d'accord avec de nombreuses traditions. Anna et le roi vont lutter pour trouver un terrain d'entente..
