L'histoire
Dans la campagne de Scottsboro, en Alabama, en 1931, neuf jeunes Afro-Américains sont tirés d'un train et accusés d'avoir violé deux femmes blanches. Bien que les hommes (dont un adolescent mineur) ne soient pas coupables, ils subissent de multiples procès, condamnations et appels, dont plusieurs où ils sont défendus par un avocat de New York envoyé en Alabama par le parti communiste. Entourés de racisme, ils tentent de l'emporter dans une affaire tristement célèbre qui a contribué à donner naissance au mouvement moderne des droits civils.
