L'histoire
Arthur Kipps, orphelin et assistant de drapier surmené au début du siècle dernier, hérite inopinément d'une fortune qui le propulse dans la haute société. Sa compagne d'enfance, Ann Pornick, regarde avec consternation Arthur se faire refaire le portrait par la belle et élégante Helen Walsingham. Les deux jeunes femmes aiment sans aucun doute Arthur - mais laquelle d'entre elles devrait-il écouter ? Avec l'aide de ses amis, Arthur apprend que si l'on veut avoir la chance de vivre la bonne vie, il faut faire les bons choix.
