L'histoire
Boston, 1959. Au Colonial Theatre, la troupe de Robbin' Hood salue les spectateurs le soir de la première. Au moment où le rideau tombe, Jessica Cranshaw, l'actrice principale de la production, profondément dépourvue de talent, est alors assassinée. Le lieutenant Frank Cioffi, un flic amateur de théâtre musical, entre en scène. Il met en quarantaine les acteurs et l'équipe à l'intérieur du théâtre pendant qu'il cherche des indices. Mais Cioffi ne se contente pas d'enquêter sur le meurtre : il offre également des conseils et des idées pour améliorer la pièce. La comédie musicale ouvrira à nouveau dans 24 heures avec un nouveau rôle principal. Le temps presse donc pour trouver le tueur. Qui cela pourrait-il être ? Carmen Bernstein, la productrice provocatrice et insolente ? Christopher Belling, le réalisateur égoïste et campagnard ? Georgia Hendricks, la parolière qui remplace Jessica sur scène ? Niki Harris, l'ingénue qui a un secret ? Tout le monde est suspect, et seul Cioffi peut donner un sens aux indices...
